Regulations Governing Individual Research Rooms

I. Purpose: Individual research rooms have been made available by the Office of Library and Information Technology (hereinafter referred to as the OLIT) to facilitate the personal academic research of NTOU faculty and students.
II. Eligibility: Full-time faculty members and Ph.D. students with permission from their advisors may apply for the use of individual research rooms according to these Regulations.
III. Application:
1. Application hours:
  (1) 8:30 to 16:30 Monday to Friday.
  (2) Applications are not accepted on regular, national, or school holidays.
2. Application procedure:
 

Applicants must fill out the Individual Research Room Application Form, have their advisors affix their signatures, and then submit in person the application with their employee or student ID card at the OLIT. The OLIT will make schedules and arrangements.

IV. Use:
1. Available hours: Rooms are available when the library opens until 30 minutes before the library closes.
2. Duration of use: An applicant may apply to use a room for up to 30 days without renewal. A new application may only be filed on the last day of the reserved period for further use.
3. Number of users: Rooms may only be used by one person at a time.
4. Rules of use:
(1) Usage rights of individual research rooms: Users may not transfer their usage rights to other individuals. Violators will lose their reservation privileges for one year.
(2) Users may not apply for another individual research room during a reserved period.
(3) Keys to individual research rooms:
 
  1. Failure to sign in or collect the room key from the OLIT within three days of the start of the reserved period will be considered a waiver of usage, and the OLIT will cancel the reservation.
  2. Users may not duplicate the room keys or lend them to other individuals. Violators will lose their reservation privileges permanently.
  3. During the reserved period, users are responsible for the safekeeping of the room keys. Users who have lost their keys will be liable for the total costs of changing the locks.
(4) Use of library materials:
 
  1. Library materials must be checked out before entering individual research rooms.
  2. First-time violators will be given a warning, and second-time violators will lose their reservation privileges for three months.
(5) During the reserved period, users must sign in each time they arrive to count the number of days the room has been used, exceeding half of the reserved period; otherwise, the user will lose their reservation privileges for three months.
V. Return:
 
1. Users must bring their staff or student ID card to the OLIT before noon on the last day of their reserved period. An OLIT staff must accompany them to check that all room equipment (including network cables and desk lamps) is in working order and that all personal items have been removed before the return process is completed. In the event of any damage, users will be liable for the costs and lose their reservation privileges for three months.
2. Suppose a user has not vacated an individual research room before the deadline. In that case, the OLIT will retrieve the user's items from the room but not be responsible for their safekeeping. In addition, said user will lose their reservation privileges for three months.
VI. Additional notes:
1. Users may not engage in activities unrelated to research in the individual research rooms. Violators will lose their reservation privileges for three months.
2. Users must maintain a clean environment and may not eat, drink, smoke, make a loud noise, damage or install equipment, or display improper behavior in the individual research rooms. Violators will lose their reservation privileges for three months.
3. Users are responsible for safekeeping any personal belongings in the individual research rooms. The OLIT will not be liable for any missing or lost items.
4 Users must turn off any plugged-in devices 30 minutes before the library closes every day for safety reasons. Violators will lose their reservation privileges for three months.
5. OLIT staff members may enter individual research rooms without prior notice for random checks and maintenance while the rooms are in use. Users may not refuse admittance to these staff members.
6. Based on some exceptional circumstances, the OLIT reserves the right to suspend the use of individual research rooms.
VII. The Library & IT Committee shall ratify, promulgate, and implement these Regulations.
